🦈 Hello Oaktree Sharks Families!

We are so incredibly excited to bring even more FUN to the Oaktree Sharks this season! Carrie and Danielle are back and coordinating just as much fun (if not more!), with the help of even more wonderful Oaktree Sharks families.

We truly cannot make this amazing social calendar happen without the help, energy, and support of our incredible Oaktree Family!

We have an action-packed lineup of community events to kick off the summer. Grab your calendars and dive into the details below!

🥳First up … Our Sharks Kick-Off Party!

This is a SUPER fun way to start the season, get to know more people on the team, and start off our summer with a splash.

• When: Thursday, May 21st from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM
• Where: Oaktree Pool
• What to Bring: Bring your own picnic dinner for your family, plus your lawn chairs, towels, and blankets.
• Gear Swap: Bring any gently used Oaktree apparel to swap with other families!

Kick-Off Party Schedule & Details:

• 5:30–6:30 PM: Free Swim! (6 and Unders must be accompanied by an adult)
• 6:30 PM: The Big Buddy Meet-Up! Swimmers will get a chance to meet and get to know their big and little buddies for the season and fill out a fun “Get to Know You” sheet!

Buddy Notes:

• You do not need to bring a buddy gift for this event.
• If your child can only attend the buddy meet-up at 6:30 PM, that’s totally fine—we’d still love for them to come!
• Note for younger swimmers: Please prepare your little ones that their big buddy might not be there on Thursday, and that’s okay! They will still have a great time and will be introduced soon if they miss this one. We will post a “buddy list” at the pool and can help with introductions at Time Trials.

👥 What is the Buddy Tradition?

Buddies is a favorite, time-honored tradition for our Oaktree swimmers! All swimmers will be assigned a big and little buddy. Big buddies help our smaller swimmers get acclimated to swim team life—especially at swim meets—by helping them get to the clerk of the course, spending time together, and cheering each other on, just to name a few!

🎁 Buddy Gift Suggestions:

Exchanging small gifts is a fun part of the buddy tradition. Here is what you need to know:

• First Buddy Gift: Can be brought to Time Trials on Saturday, May 23rd.
• Suggested Spend: ~$5 per gift.
• The Plan: Plan for a small buddy gift at each swim meet, with a larger gift saved for the Championship Meet. Some examples include: a piece of candy, favorite snack/drink, or small toy. 

🗓️ Upcoming Events on the Horizon

The fun doesn't stop at the kickoff party! Mark your calendars for these upcoming Oaktree Sharks social events.

🥞 Pancake Breakfast

• When: Monday, June 1st from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
• Details: This event is hosted by the amazing Julia Lin! There is no swim practice this morning. All swimmers are welcome to come enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast and a fun free swim from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM at the Oaktree pool.
• Join the fun: We’ll let you know about sign ups for donations and volunteers for this event soon!

⚾ San Jose Giants Night

• When: Tuesday, June 2nd
• Details: Let’s pack the park with our Oaktree Sharks! Don’t forget to wear your Oaktree Sharks gear.
• Tickets: Head to the San Jose Giants website to purchase. Tickets are Buy One, Get One Free with the code SJBOGO. There are currently LOTS of seats available in sections E and F.

🏊 Sharks Open Swim

• When: Thursday, June 4th from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
• Details: Come hang out for a free swim for Sharks swimmers at Oaktree. There will be a lifeguard on duty. Please note: All parents must stay with any swimmers who are 6 and under.
• Lend a hand: Let’s make sure the pool deck is cleaned up of any trash and that all the pool deck furniture is put back in their place.

💕 Mom’s Night Out

• When: Saturday, June 6th at 7:00 PM
• Details: Hosted by the wonderful Theresa Opp. More details and information to come soon!
