Please read- week of 7/6 updates

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe 4th of July. Here are our updates a little early!

Please read this email carefully as I am starting to send out important information about Champs. Sorry it is so long!

I just received the champs volunteer sign up list. I am working on adding it to Swimtopia now. Our sign up will open Monday 7/7 at 8:00am Please make sure you sign up for a volunteer position and RSVP your swimmer. All RSVP's are due Tuesday 7/8 night. Coaches have to put in champs entries over a week ahead of time to get everything to the printer on time.

Champs has 6 shifts:

Shift 0- 6:00-8:30

Shift 1- Events 1-24 Medley Relay and Butterfly

Shift 2- Events 25-44 Backstroke and IM

Shift 3- Events 45- 56 Breaststroke

Shift 4- Events 57-79 Freestyle and Free Relay

Shift 5- Clean up shift

Champs Volunteer Jobs are:

  • Timers- time the events with a plunger. It's an automatic start, you just press the plunger when the swimmer ends/touches the wall. It is very much like Belwood but not wireless.
  • Timer/recorder- Time the events with a regular stopwatch and record your time.
  • Runners- walk around to timers, stroke and turn judges and computer tables bringing them dq slips, posting the scores, and passing ribbon labels to the ribbon table.
  • Clerk of the Course- line swimmers up in the correct lanes and heats
  • Event board at clerk of the course- change the event board in front of the clerk of the course based on what events they are currently lining swimmers up for.
  • Deck Marshalls- making sure everyone is following the rules of the facility. Depending on where on deck you are. A map will come out in the next week or so.
  • Parking lot Marshalls- Direct cars to parking spots prior to the meet starting
  • Clerk Marshall- stand in the walkway and allow the swimmers to go from clerk of the course to the diving blocks. Block the spectator traffic when swimmers need to cross the walk way.
  • Ribbons- label and file ribbons for Oaktree
  • Hospitality- walk around passing out water to volunteers during their shift
  • Program Sales- sell the printed programs
  • Garbage Maintenance- empty trash cans and put in new trash bags, haul trash to main location for disposal
Champs information:

  • Check in 6:45-7:15 Swimmers and volunteers -Mr Pickles Lunch vouchers will also be passed out
  • Champs timeline typically is 6:45 check in, 8:30 start time, 5:00 finish time. This is an all day meet.
  • Parking- you will pull in the lot, turn right onto the gravel parking lot. You will park under the solar panels or out into the gravel/dirt lot. Gates will open at 6:15. DO NOT park in the paved lot, unless you have a VIP Oaktree parking pass. Morgan Hill Aquatics Center will have cars towed.
  • Warm Ups-7:35-8:05 These are mandatory for all swimmers. We will be in lanes 1-5. The pool is very different then any other pool we have been in this summer. Your swimmer will be prepared for their race if they have practiced jumping/diving in and swimming a few laps.
  • Clerk of the Course- Please drop your swimmer off at the entrance to the clerk. No one else will be allowed into clerk. If your swimmer is hesitant, find their big buddy or a jr. coach to go in and help them. Parents of littles: please keep and eye on the large score board for what event we are on and get them to clerk 5 events prior to their race.
  • Volunteering- Please be early to your shift 1-2 events prior. You can ask the prior volunteer what your job entails. I will be at check in and can help explain your job as well as your location. Marshalls- please review the map included in our champs info page for your location and job.
  • More information about champs and all the details will be sent out closer to the meet.
