Newsletter week of 6/9
Congratulations Sharks! We won our meet yesterday. We had an overwhelming number of improved times and great races! I don’t have the official results yet from Montevideo, but once we get the results they will be uploaded on Swimtopia and posted at the pool. Most of the results are posted at the pool already.
I will see you at the pool today for pictures. 10:30 individual and 11:30 for the group picture.
We’ve started a WhatsApp so we can all communicate easily. This will not be the way I communicate team information. This will be used just for parents to chat. Please join if you’d like.

As a reminder, during swim meets we follow USA swim rules about photography behind the blocks. You may not go behind the starting blocks to take pictures. You may stand just in front of the blocks to the side to take a picture. This is for all of our swimmers safety. Thank you.
Please RSVP and volunteer for the June 15th Meet by Tuesday, June 11th. Everything is open! This will be a meet at home vs Belwood.

Watermelon Eating Contest:
"Calling all kids! Join our watermelon eating contest for a chance to win medals! If you want your child to participate, please bring sliced watermelon to share.
Here's how it works: Children will line up and have one minute to devour as much watermelon as they can, without using their hands! After the time's up, your judges will determine who devoured the most watermelon & will crown the champion in each age group."
Cardboard Boat Races June 27th
5:30-7:30
Events include:
Buddy Races
Individual Races
Groups of 2 or more races
Please see the website for a more in depth description and video demo!
Bring your own dinner, and cardboard boat to race!
Swimmers are encouraged to team up with their friends to construct a sea-worthy vessel using only cardboard, duct tape, and paint.
Depending on the number of entries, there may be several heats to determine the overall champion.
Please be prepared to take home the remains of any boats that you bring. There is not enough room in the Oaktree dumpster for all the soggy shipwrecks! We will have bags for you to put your soggy boats in to take home.
- Boats will be raced in the pool. Each heat will be 25 yards. Depending on the number of entries, your boat may have to survive multiple heats.
- Boats must be human-powered. There is no limit to the number of crew members on each boat.
- Materials allowed:
- Cardboard or paper (no plastic, waxed cardboard, or waterproof cardboard)
- Duct tape, or any type of packaging tape
- Adhesive products such as liquid nails for gluing the boat together
- Water- or acrylic-based paint
- Paddles are allowed but must also be made out of cardboard and duct tape.
- Please take home the remains of your boat at the end of the races!
- Watch this VIDEO to see it in action!
Let me know if you have any questions!
