Tie Dye Washing Instructions
I hope Tie Dye is going well! Here are the washing instructions:
TAKE HOME DIRECTIONS FOR RINSING & WASHING TIE DYE SHIRTS
You will be taking home your tie dye shirt and a small container of Synthrapol. The Synthrapol is the chemical that sets the dye so it will not bleed anymore. Keep it out of the reach of children.
The shirts need to stay in their individual Ziploc bags, lying flat, for 24 hours. You can rinse these shirts as early as Tuesday mid- morning
Rinse Process:
- Take the shirt out of the Ziploc bag and rinse (can be done outside with a hose or in the kitchen sink.) Do not remove the rubber bands yet. The dye will not stain your sink, if you clean it out right afterwards, but wear old clothes as the dye will stain clothing and other items. (I find the sink easier than a hose.)
- Rinse the shirt and squeeze out the water - repeat several times until the water starts to look clear, then remove the rubberbands. It is quicker to use scissors, but be very careful not to cut the shirt. Throw away the rubber bands.
- Once all of the rubber bands have been removed, rinse the shirt and squeeze it again severaltimes until the water runs clear again.
- Set the shirt aside and rinse another shirt if you are doing more than one. Do not stack the shirts on top of each other, as the colors will bleed.
Washing the shirts.
- If you have a toploading washing machine, fill it with WARM ORHOT water on the largest setting. Once it is full, add the container of Synthrapol (this is the chemical that sets the dye so it will not bleed anymore). Then put the shirts into the washer, do not add any other detergent or fabric softener. Run the shirts through a normal wash cycle. Please rinse out the plastic container, which held the Synthrapol, and return it to us.
- If you have a front loading washing machine, put the shirts in the machine and add the Synthrapol where you would normally put the detergent. Run the shirts through a normal wash cycle using the largest load setting and WARM OR HOT water. Again, do not add any other detergent or fabric softener. Please rinse out the plastic container, which held the Synthrapol, and return it to us.
Drying the shirts. Once the shirts have been washed, dry them in the dryer on the low to normal temperature setting.
FYI: Once the shirts have been washed in HOT water with the Synthrapol and dried in the dryer, they are set. From this point on, they can be washed with any other laundry and the dye will not run or bleed onto anything else.
Please throw away the Ziploc bags, paper towels, and rubber bands.
